The end of October nears. You know what that means: our favorite spooky holiday is almost here! You may be trick-or-treating or bringing your own little monsters to gather their own treats.
I mean free candy, fun dress-ups, and staying up late: what's not to love?
But while you guys collect candy, Play-doh, popcorn, apples, toys, and other fun stuff, you gotta stay safe.
- Sneak, slither, slide, and soar on sidewalks, not streets.
- Look both ways twice before crossing the street; Grandma got run over by a reindeer, but I'd rather not have you turn into the Headless Horseman because of a clumsy dinosaur, witch, or super hero. Also, cross only on the cross-walks.
- Don't hide in dangerous places: streets and active parking lots aren't the same as a haunted house-- the danger there's real.
- Wear light-colored or reflective costumes. Or you can put some reflective tape on your new Nimbus 2000.
- Plan a route-- you want to hit the houses with the best candy. Plus your parents want to know where you are.
- Bring a flashlight-- torches are sooo Samhain.
- Stay away from open flames: your costume could catch fire. Being a ghost on Halloween may be fun, but it won't be fun to stay that way forever.
- Only trick-or-treat at houses with a light on. The other houses may contain monsters that'll jump out and eat you for bothering them. (Besides: they don't have candy.)
- Don't go inside someone's house, or you'll be eaten for sure! (If you visit Grandma Hester's, you can go inside though. Use your good judgement.)
- Have an adult-- mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, Aunt Lucy, Uncle
Bob, or your 23-year-old brother-- examine your candy. A witch's brew may have been poured into it. Open candies are dangerous.
Thank you American Red Cross for these safety tips. I sincerely hope you didn't roll your eyes and tell me to shut up already. These things are important, and anything can happen on Halloween. Oh yeah; thank you American Red Cross for these helpful tips.
But have fun, eat candy, act silly. It's Halloween!
